Only one membership is required per person.
To attend films at the New West International Film Festival, you must:
- Be 19 years of age or older, and
- Be a member of our Film Society, unless otherwise stated.
Ticket holders may be asked to show their membership card or receipt:
- At each screening, and
- Whenever purchasing tickets.
Once ticket sales open, memberships can be purchased online or at the cinema door.

Why There’s a $2 Membership Fee

Under British Columbia’s Motion Picture Act, films shown publicly must normally be reviewed and officially classified by Consumer Protection BC. However, registered non-profit film societies—like ours—can receive an exemption that allows us to screen unclassified films legally if and only if:

The screening is limited to members aged 18 or older, and
Membership is acquired via annual subscription.

The $2 membership fee you pay is necessary to:

Make you a member of the New West Film Society, fulfilling the requirements of provincial law, and
Enable us to present these films lawfully, exempt from classification.

This small fee helps us remain a volunteer-run, non-profit film society dedicated to sharing meaningful, under-represented stories with our community.

Additionally, as a member, you may be eligible to vote at our annual general meeting and stay connected with our festival through newsletters and updates.
